Meet the Author: Preethi Venugopala

Preethi Venugopala

I’m super excited to share my chat with author Preethi Venugopala today. Familiar in both blogger and author circles, Preethi is a multi-genre writer with books and short stories for both adult and children. From engineering to writing– let’s talk about her journey.

Sue: Thanks for joining us.

So, from civil engineer to writer and blogger. How did this transition happen?

Preethi: After my son was born, I took a sabbatical from my day job. During that interval, I enrolled for a Masters degree in English literature and it fueled my creativity further. I had begun blogging by then. Flash fiction and short stories written for contests paved the way to becoming a published author.

Sue: How has being a blogger helped your writing career?

Preethi: As I said, my writing career began with my blog. Being a blogger gives you the courage to put your writing out there in public. You get to meet other writers and readers via the blog too.

Sue: Tell us about your most recent release. It’s a love story, right?

Preethi: The Princess and the Superstar is the second book in my Sravanapura Royals series. It is a romance and tells the story of Princess Kritika and superstar Saketh Rao who arrives at the Sravanapura palace to research the character of the doomed royal scion Hari Varman.

Sue: A princess and a superstar sounds like a hot combination!

Now let’s talk writing process. You’re quite prolific. Any writing rituals you’d like to share with us?

Preethi: I am a fan of the Pomodoro Method. I believe in focused writing for shorter spans of time than sitting and staring at the screen for long hours. My writing usually happens during 20-25 minute sprints.

Sue: I know you write short stories along with your novels and children’s books. Do you prefer writing those or the longer works?

Preethi: I like both forms. In fact, I think of novels as a collection of short stories. Each chapter acts like a short story in a way, right?

Sue: What can your readers expect from you next?

Preethi: I am working on a standalone novel now. The third book in the Sravanapura Royals series is also in the making. Also, I have short stories scheduled to be published on the Juggernaut Books platform in the coming months.

Sue: That’s a lot on your plate! Good luck 🙂
